Evalation part 4 - Audience Feedback

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey , the world's leading questionnaire tool.

To collect some audience feedback I have created a survey. Audience feedback is vital as if the audience don't like what they see they are less likely to buy the magazine.

Evaluation part 4 - Reader profile

Earlier in the year I created a reader profile for my magazine. It shows who my ideal primary target audience is, Females around 15-22 (as 30% are still in education) who are working class and it also shows my ideal secondary target audience, older men also of working class. As well as showing the primary target audience and the secondary target audience it also shows the interests of my ideal target audience.

Evaluation part 4

  • What would be the audience for your media product?

Evaluation part 3

After doing research into different media institutions that publish music magazines I decided that it would be between Bauer Media and IPC Media. After comparing the two against each other I have decided that Bauer Media would be the better choice for my magazine.
The company already publish a few very successful music magazines like Q and Mojo so its obvious they have a lot of knowledge when it comes to publishing music magazines. On top of this the music magazines they do publish are a different genre to my magazine. They also have quite a few magazines that are targeted at my secondary target audience however, not as many targeted at my primary.

Making and distributing my magazine would also be very beneficial to the company, as they don't have many magazines targeted at my primary audience distributing my magazine will broaden their audience and increase their profits. My magazine wouldn't be in competition with any of their current magazines as it is a different genre it would only be in competition with other media institutions like Prometheus Global Media who distribute billboard .

Although IPC Media is a good publishing company they produce very few magazines that are targeted at the younger generations so therefore I believe choosing this publisher would be a risk.

Evaluation part 3

  • What type of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Evaluation part 1- My feature article compared with a Q feature article

The typical conventions are listed in the previous prezi.

Evaluation part 1 - My contents page compared to a Q contents page

Evaluation part 1 - My front cover compared to a Q front cover

Forgot to mention in the prezi but both magazines feature catchy taglines of stories that will attract the attention of the reader.

Evaluation part 1

  • In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

To answer this question I have decided to compare my front cover, contents page and feature article to those produced by an actual music magazine the magazine I have decided to compare mine to is Q as I used this magazine as a style model.

Feature article progress

I have now finished the second page of my feature article I have including a quote from the artist which is red (keeping the house style) and have written the rest of my article.

Feature article progress

I have completed the first double page of my feature article I have added a quote from the artist in the left hand corner and have added page numbers to make the article look more authentic. I have now moved on to the second page where I have used the grid to locate the middle of the page then put text on one half and an image of the artist on the second.

Feature article progress

So far I have changed the brightness and contrast of the main image and removed the image background using the magic eraser tool. I have also changed the font and colour of some of the text to match in with the house style (the colour red) that I have been using throughout the magazine and I have matched the colour of the quotation marks with the colour of the top the model is wearing.

Feature article process

I have started to create the first double page of my feature article. So far I have changed the brightness and contrast of the image as it looked quite dull to begin with and have enlarged it so that it takes up most of the first page. I have also included a quote from the artist which takes up the majority of the second page. The quote is a common convention in music magazine articles as it attracts the attention of the audience.

Mode of address

Mode of address is how media speaks to the audience. The audience feel like they can relate to the contents within the magazine so are more likely to buy it.

Contents page progress

I have now filled in "the into review" bit using an image that I took whist at a concert.

Contents page progress

I have replaced more of the shapes with actual images and have stared to write the actual contents of the magazine. A picture of the model on the front cover who is also features in the main article is located on the right hand side of the first page. This is to make it easier for the readers to locate the main story that has been featured on the front cover.

Contents page progress

The contents page is also complete. However I think I need to change the brightness and contrast of one of the images and I also need to change the photo of the front cover as I have recently made some changes.

Interactivity

Interactivity is becoming more and more important and is becoming an essential if a magazine wants to stay in business as social networking is now largely more popular than paper magazines, because of this many magazines now have their own websites and social networking in order to keep in touch with their readers and draw new customers.

Many magazine editors will use social networking to make the audience feel like they have a say in what goes inside the magazine, for example the editor of Kerrang!, a popular rock genre music magazine often uses Twitter to ask his followers who they think should feature on the front cover of the next issue which makes the readers feel as if they have had an input in the magazine.

In additional many magazines will include a page of fan letters/ fan art/links to videos on these pages the editor will often reply to something the fan has spoke about which makes the fans feel as if they are being listened to and their opinion is important to the magazine. Interactivity can expand a magazines readership and make it look more modern leading to it becoming a popular and well known magazine.

Front cover progress

This could potentially be my final front cover however they're a few things that I am not happy with. for example the font of the main tag line and the drop shadow that is surrounding the text. I feel like it makes the font harder to read so I may be making some improvements

Front cover progress

I have now added an image to the front cover and a puff in the top corner. In order to have the image on a white background I had to use the magic eraser to remove the pervious background. I have used to include a puff to advertise freebies in hope it will attract the readers attention. I made the puff using the shape tool.

Contents page progress

To start with I decided to layout how I wanted my contents page to look. Eventually I will replace the pink squares with images. The red squares are where the titles are going to be and the line down the middle separates the two pages, This line wont always be there it is only there for the time being so that I can locate the middle. The black line at the bottom is going to separate the contents from the pages numbers etc.

I then proceeded to replace the shapes and blank spaces with relevant information for my magazine. I included a title, the issue number, page numbers, articles that can be found on certain pages and I have started to include the images I have took.
